Counseling Overview
The North Elementary counseling program has the philosophy that the whole child matters, and we create an environment that guides the child to find his or her potential. The program is designed and implemented for the purpose of supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth of all students in an effort to accomplish the goal of creating and fostering life-long, persistent learners. We support students as they build five core competencies: self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
The school counselor supports these efforts in the following ways:
- Collaborating with teachers to deliver lessons to students during the school day through whole group, small group, and individual meetings.
- School-wide positive behavior supports and interventions (see link below)
- Weekly small group supports
- Individualized behavioral and emotional supports
We firmly believe in educating the whole child. In order for a child to be available for learning experiences, they must first feel safe, regulated, and ready to interact socially with others. Taking time to intentionally teach these social-emotional skills to our students will help prepare them for the best possible learning environment.
Please don’t hesitate to call or email me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to talking with you more about the support available to students attending North Elementary!
