What is SEL and why is it important?

Second Step- Social Emotional Learning Curriculum

Social-emotional learning helps students succeed in the classroom and throughout their lives. Social emotional learning (SEL) curricula teach children techniques to:

  • Gain confidence
  • Set goals
  • Make better decisions
  • Collaborate with others in work and play
  • Navigate the world more effectively

Second Step SEL is research-based, teacher-informed, and classroom-tested to promote the social-emotional development, safety, and well-being of children. Topics covered include: Skills For Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, and Problem Solving.
